Dauan, Raphael (“Pele”)


Raphael, son of Yosef and Massouda Dauan, was born on May 5, 1939 in Benghazi, Libya. The family immigrated to Israel in 1949 and he continued to study at the school in the transit camp. He was drafted into the IDF in April 1956 and served in the air force until he completed his regular army service and then went on reserve duty. With the outbreak of the Six-Day War, he was called up for reserve duty and on the fourth day of the battles, on the morning of May 6, 1967, when his car was hit in an attack on the battalion’s night camp, he fell. left a wife, who he married three months before he fell. Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
