Darmeri, Ezra

Ezra, son of Zvia and Zohar, was born in 1947 in Yemen, when he was four years old and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1951. The family chose to settle in Rosh Ha’ayin, near Petach Tikva, where Ezra studied at the elementary school in Rosh Ha’ayin. He was drafted into the IDF at the end of May 1971 and assigned to the Engineering Corps. After completing basic training successfully, he was sent to the Corps’ Palsim course. This course was successfully passed and he was assigned to one of the corps’ field units. In his unit, he quickly acquired the reputation of an excellent professional. When the Yom Kippur War broke out Ezra was the father of a child, and his wife was pregnant. At first he was not drafted, so he would go to the base every day to speed up his recruitment. He longed to go out with everyone to defend the country before the invasion of the enemy. Finally he was drafted and sent to participate in the braking battles. On December 13, 1973, Ezra fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by a wife, son, daughter born after his death, parents and two brothers.
