Danieli, Mordechai (Max)
Son of Hanna and Daniel Eliahu was born on 21.5.1921 in the city of Casablanca, Morocco. In his city, he completed high school and studied engineering and measurement. On May 7, 1945, he immigrated to Israel, began working as a surveyor and was accepted by the Association of Certified Surveyors in Israel. On February 1, 1948 he joined the “Carmeli” Brigade. Even before the conquest of Haifa, he participated in the bombing of the railway bridge near Acre and later took part in the battles in Acre, Yehiam, Mishba, Ramat Yochanan, Haifa, and Shfaram. After stopping the invasion of the Jordan Valley, our forces took the initiative and attacked the Gilboa area. After gaining control of the Gilboa ridge, the Carmeli Brigade attacked the town of Jenin on June 2-3, capturing the outposts that control the city. The Iraqi army, which moved to Samaria after its failure in the Jordan Valley, concentrated its forces and counterattacked, and under this attack, our forces were forced to retreat. In this battle, Mordechai fell on the 3rd of Iyar 5708 (June 3, 1948). On 20 Av 5710 (3.8.1950), he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
