Daniel, Stefan


Son of Malka and Abraham. Stefan was born in Romania on February 23, 1954. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1959. Stefan studied at the Kaduri agricultural school and was an active member of the youth orchestra in Safed. He was discharged in 1975 with the rank of lieutenant. Stephan joined the police on September 21, 1975. He served as a reserve officer in the Israel Air Force, and served in the Israel Defense Forces as a reserve officer in the Galilee and in March 1978 Prior to the rank of commander, Stefan graduated from the Israel Police in 1983, and was promoted to the rank and file. He was knowledgeable, disciplined, thorough and punctual. Was under pressure and had a strong desire to improve the level of the unit he commanded. He had outstanding social skills, high level of expression, and always cooperated with his commanders and comrades in arms. He studied at the university, and even gave lectures in the communities of the region on social and security matters. On December 27, 1983, Superintendent Stephen was killed in Sidon, Lebanon. He was the commander of a Border Police force that captured a wanted terrorist squad while preparing explosive devices and heavy weapons, and in the battle that developed inside the building, he defended his soldiers and was killed. Three wanted terrorists were also killed. Stefan was twenty-nine when he fell. He was buried in the military section of the Safed cemetery. Survived by a wife – Sara, and two daughters – Rivka and Sigal
