Dana, Chaim

Haim, son of Mazal and Moshe, was born on April 29, 1954, in Haifa, and lived with his family in Kiryat Eliezer on the outskirts of Haifa. He spent his early years in Yavne’eli Elementary School in Kiryat Eliezer, but after discovering his many talents, the parents decided, at the recommendation of his teachers, to move him to the “Reali” school in Haifa. At the “Reali” School he graduated with honors from the 12th grade of high school, and was awarded a special prize for his excellence in history studies. Haim was a quiet, self-contained boy who did not interact much with the children of his age. Reading books, listening to music he loved, and other cultural pursuits such as these. If Haim had been present at a neighborhood soccer match, he would have participated as a judge because he could browse through a book in his leisure time. Chaim was drafted into the IDF in early August 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps, On the 10th of Tishrei 5734 (October 6, 1973), the force advanced towards the Suez Canal. During the movement, the commander and the tank were hit. The team continued to fight courageously against the enemy who had surrounded the tank until the tank was hit again, and Haim fell. He was brought to eternal rest in the Haifa cemetery. Survived by father, mother, brother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Chaim fought with great fervor until he was hurt, and during the battle he stuck to his mission, displaying courage and recognition of the mission he had filled.”
