Dan, Elad


Ben Daniel and Amnon. Born on December 14, 1980 in Kibbutz Eilot in the south of the country, Elad enlisted on 18.11.1999 and served as a combat soldier in the Paratroopers Brigade. He was an outstanding student and even received the “Commander’s Cap”. After his discharge, Elad and Sivan went to Canada for seven months, worked, traveled and saw the world, and when they returned they lived together for a year at Kibbutz Eilot, During a combat operation in the village of Doubel in southern Lebanon, two missiles were fired into a residential building in which Elad and his friends were camping. The first missile hit the room where the commanders were staying and killed four of them, while the second missile hit the room where Elad and Idan were staying. Their belonging to an elite sabotage unit of the paratroopers caused severe consequences. The missile ignited the explosives they carried with them. Elad Dan fell in a battle in southern Lebanon on the 9th of Av 5766 (9 August 2006), at the age of twenty-six. He was buried in the cemetery of Kibbutz Eilot – on the hill overlooking the sea where he so loved to dive. After his fall he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He left behind his parents, brother and sister, and a friend.
