Dahlika, Eli (Elijah)
Ben Batsheva and Aziz was born on December 12, 1959, in Jerusalem. Eli studied at the Carmeli elementary school in the capital and continued his studies at the school where he finished ninth grade. Afterward, he went to work and continued his studies in evening classes at an external school. Thanks to his diligence he passed his matriculation exams. In August 1978 he enlisted in the IDF and served in a transport unit, and after being trained in a general training course, he was sent to a course for heavy vehicle drivers. He did his service in Sinai. On July 28, 1979, a water tanker led to one of his units near Refidim. He reached a sharp curve on the road, veered off and turned over. He died of his wounds on the 16th of Av 5739 (9.8.1979). He was 20 when he died. Eli was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left behind his parents and four brothers. In a condolence letter written by the commander of the family unit in which he related the circumstances of Eli’s death, he noted that: “Eli was known at the base as a soldier who was willing to contribute, was a quite modest and polite soldier
