He was a diligent student and loved the school. Jamil continued his studies at the Reina and Mehadad High School in the village of Reina. Throughout his years of studies, he was a natural person who was always surrounded by friends. Jamil was characterized by joy of life and a sense of humor. From childhood he had a musical bent and a special love for poetry. He was very fond of singing and formed a group of young people who were dancing and singing at parties and events in and out of the village. At the same time, he was able to be serious and prudent, and received respect and sympathy in his village. After graduation, he started working. Jamil, the Muslim, explained his desire to serve in the army: “I want to enlist because I am an Israeli citizen, in order to maintain security in the country.” After receiving Jamil was drafted in mid-December 1994, underwent basic training and was trained as a infantry fighter. Jamil was one of the most prominent in the company and wanted to move up the ranks. Later on, he underwent additional courses, including a squad commanders’ course and a infantry symbol course, and rose to the rank of sergeant. Jamil was a good commander and treated his subordinates with care, warmth and understanding, he loved the army very much, was proud of being a soldier in the IDF, and even tried to convince His friends in the village to volunteer for service. Jamil is considered an excellent fighter and an outstanding commander, and is seen by his friends and subordinates as a leader who places security on those around him. His commanders were impressed by his high level of functioning, his active involvement in the life of the company and his concern for his soldiers, and appreciated him as a pleasant, sociable and friendly man, quick-paced, thorough and diligent, with initiative and ability. In particular, his motivation was mentioned. Because of these qualities, Jamil was nominated for an officers’ course. In the fall of 1995, Jamil became engaged to his cousin in the “Aked” ceremony held in his village. On February 11, 1996, Jamil fell during his service. He was twenty-one years old when he fell. He was brought to eternal rest in his village, Mashhad. Survived by a woman, Sumaya, to whom he was engaged, parents, and eight brothers and sisters – Khaled, Joseph, Amina, Marwan, Samiya, Walid, Muhammad and Tawfiq. In a letter of condolences to the bereaved family, Chief of Staff Amnon Lipkin-Shahak wrote: “Jamil was described by his commanders as a fighter and commander with a high personal level, who contributed to his experience and was also a candidate for an officer’s course.
