Dahl, Walter

Son of Roza nee Stern and Chaim (Herman) was born on September 12, 1906, In August 1937 he immigrated to Israel, joined Kibbutz Ramat Rachel and quickly adapted to social life and hard work on rocky terrain. At the beginning of the Second World War he demanded and received permission from the kibbutz to volunteer for the British army to fight the Nazis and served there for six years, most of the time as a driver in the Western Desert (once he transported twenty Jewish refugees from Benghazi to the Egyptian border). And later in Italy, Austria and the rest of Europe. Once he was wounded and after his recovery, he returned to service. Responsible, dedicated, friendly and kind. He became fond of all his knowledge. When he was released from the army he worked as a driver on the kibbutz and married a wife. From the beginning of the 1948 war, with the start of the War of Independence, he often risked his life driving the agriculture through Baka and Abu Tor, on mined roads and under a shower of gunfire, but he did not flinch. He was killed by shrapnel on the way between Ramat Rahel and Arnona, and he asked his friends to leave him alone, since he would soon be dead, but they took him in a Lev attack and brought him to the hospital, where he died on the 15th of Iyar 5708 (May 24, 1948) – Adar A. A wife and a son who was born after his death were placed on the Sabbath day of the 26th of Elul 5710 (September 8, 1950), and was transferred to the eternal rest of the cemetery at Kibbutz Ramat Rachel.
