Dahan, Zion

Zion, son of Deborah and Abraham, was born in Tiberias on June 20, 1950. He wanted to serve in the navy and even volunteered to serve in the submarine, but because of the shortage of fighters in the armored corps, he was sent after basic training to the armored school. He was very disappointed, but he did not fall in spirit, and after he met the Armored Corps, he was glad that this was the way things were, and even suggested that his comrades should volunteer for this corps. After completing various courses and becoming a tanker, he was assigned to a famous tank brigade as a tank gunner. He was an excellent soldier, responsible and devoted to his job. In relationships with friends, he emerged as a sociable person who excelled in sensitivity and sensitivity to justice. He was soon chosen by his friends to be the department’s spokesman when it comes to improving conditions of service and correcting distortions in the unit’s life. In August 1971, Zion was released from regular service and returned to Tiberias. He wanted to go to the engineering school in Be’er Sheva from the start, but because of difficulties in funding and for the time being gave up his ambition and went out for one year to finance his studies afterward. He was hired by the Tiberias Municipality in the Education Department. He soon became fond of all the workers in the department and found satisfaction and great pleasure in his work. Two months before he planned to begin his studies in Be’er Sheva, the Yom Kippur War broke out. He was immediately recruited to the Golan Heights on Yom Kippur. Two days of fighting in the difficult battles against the Syrians, and on the 8th of Tishrei 5740 (8.10.1973), armor battle, which took place east of the village of Nafh, was hit by the tank of Zion and he was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Tiberias. Survived by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
