Dahan, Avner

Avner, son of Rachel and Rafael, was born on July 17, 1948, in Haifa, Avner was drafted into the IDF in early May 1966 and volunteered for the infantry brigade for the Golani Brigade, where he successfully completed basic training and was successful in advanced training. The military activity took him away and filled his whole being. He fulfilled the tasks entrusted to him with efficiency and devotion. His commander testified that he was a model warrior, dedicated and loved by everyone. After his discharge from the regular service, he began working in the military industry in Haifa and soon became proficient in the frame trade, and his name emerged before him as one of the most outstanding pieces in the factory. His diligence and talents stood in the way of his professional advancement and after a relatively short period of time, he was appointed in charge of a production line in the factory. At that time, he decided to marry his girlfriend Rachel and set up his home in Haifa. He loved his home and was very devoted to his family. After a day of exhausting labor at the factory, he devoted all his time to renovating and perfecting various things, to turn their old building into a real house. Avner went to the Yom Kippur War even before he was called to his unit. He had served in the reserves in an armored infantry unit, although he could easily have been discharged from combat service because he suffered from a severe stomach disease and needed a severe diet. He took part in the fierce fighting in the northern sector of Sinai, near the “Budapest” post. On October 15, 1973, Avner was hit and killed in an attack on a squadron of Egyptian soldiers. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind a wife and son, parents and eight sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
