Dahan, Amram
Son of Mazal and Yosef, was born on February 2, 1964 in Afula. From the age of 10 Amram used to help his family’s farm work and his neighbor’s farm, when the father of the family was called up for reserve duty. He loved sports and played basketball. In November 1981, Amram joined the IDF. He went through basic training and continued to study in a wireless course. After finishing the course, Amram was posted to the north of the country. In September 1982, he was promoted to the rank of corporal, and his commanders recommended that he be promoted as a “very good soldier who plays well the role of a sergeant.” On 11 November 1982 Amram was summoned to the front in Lebanon, to give testimony at the Military Government in Tyre. He stayed overnight at the government house. An explosion of a gas tank in the government building, killed dozens of people and injured dozens of others. Amram died of his wounds on 13 Kislev, November 29, 1982. He was 18 years old when he died, and the commander of his unit wrote to his parents after he died, “Amram was loved by all his friends and commanders. He was known in the unit as an outstanding soldier.” Amram was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Afula. He left behind his parents, four brothers and two sisters, and in his memory a Torah scroll was placed in the synagogue of the moshav where he grew up.
