Dabashvili, Meirav-Meir


Son of Miriam and Moshe, was born on December 22, 1961 in Russia. In 1973 he immigrated to Israel with his parents and the family settled in Kiryat Motzkin. Meir attended the Korczak elementary school. When his parents moved to Holon, he decided not to continue his studies but to go to work. He wanted to specialize as a diamond merchant and for several years worked in a diamond factory. He was a quiet, introverted boy, loved to paint and listen to music. In January 1980 he enlisted in the IDF and served in the Paratroopers Brigade, and was promoted to a rank of sergeant. With the outbreak of the Peace for Galilee War, he was sent with his unit to Lebanon. On the 16th of Sivan (7.6.1982) he drove in a jeep on his way north. Next to Lehavot Habashan, the jeep driver lost control of the steering wheel, the car tilted to the side and the soldiers in the jeep fell down and were hit. Among them was Meir, who was wounded by mortal wounds. Meir was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. He was 21 when he died. Survived by his parents, brother and sister. The commander of his unit noted in a letter to his family Meir’s efforts to reach the front quickly.
