Crystal, Assaf

Son of Tamar and Kalman, was born on 23.3.1962 in Kibbutz Nir Eliyahu in the name of Eliyahu Golomb. Like all the children in the kibbutz, Assaf studied at the elementary school in Nir Eliyahu, continued his studies at a kibbutz high school in Beit Berl and graduated from the kibbutz and moshav high school in Shfayim. Assaf was a talented student, his main interest was history. Other areas he was interested in and knew were: books, sports, politics, agriculture, and Hebrew songs. Assaf loved sports, and on Fridays he played football with his friends on the kibbutz. His sympathy was given to Maccabi Tel Aviv. He himself participated in the regional basketball team. In the realm of society and politics, he was always at the center of things, alert and attentive, to all that was happening around him. After graduating from high school, Assaf went on a training course at the “Noar HaOved” during a third year of service (where the boys and girls go out to serve before the army). His apprentices loved him very much, and appreciated what he had done for the “nest.” He was a responsible and enterprising man. Asaf had a close connection with the house, which was expressed in the many letters he used to write to his parents, sisters, brother and girlfriend, in which he shared with them everything he had. His letters can be learned about his personality: he has cynical humor, very sensitive, serious and reasonable, a good friend and in times of trouble he could be trusted to help, sensitive to the injustice done in society and in Israel. When Assaf enlisted in the IDF, he passed the pilot tests successfully, but asked not to take part in the course because he was deterred by his commitment to serve in the career army for many years. According to his commanders, he did not invest enough. In the end, he volunteered to serve in a paratroop battalion, saw it as a mission, and hoped to meet him from the movement, this time as an IDF commander. In the middle of a squadron course, Assaf went to Lebanon, took part in the war and completed the course successfully, but he did not like the army, but he excelled as a soldier and a commander. As a responsible person, he met all the truth tests that had been called for him during the war, and later as commander. Assaf was the pride of a unit, and his main unit was his friends in the kibbutz and his family, with whom he wanted to be in spite of his connections with his army comrades. When he was complete with himself and his role, when the internal recognition of his vital role matured in him, he completed the course properly and returned to serve in the battalion he loved so much, this time as an officer. Half a year later, he returned to Lebanon with his subordinates, and on Wednesday morning, June 27, 1984, Assaf went on an early tour to get to know the area in ” But he did not finish the tour, but a few meters before the final destination they encountered an ambush, a fire was fired, Assaf managed to answer with fire until he was hit by a direct hit to the head and was killed on the spot. He saw every man’s orders as a thinking man, and treated them with respect, but he expected them to respond swiftly – as soldiers – he hated the war but did what he had to do, he was proud of the IDF’s morality. His direct commander wrote to his parents that he was curious to check on Assaf’s performance at the beginning of the training, and after a half-night of test, he decided with satisfaction that Assaf was an excellent MP The defense minister wrote to the family that “Assaf was an exemplary soldier, an outstanding fighter, His friends. “After his death Assaf was promoted to lieutenant, he fell in Lebanon on 27.6.1984, and was brought to eternal rest in Nir Eliyahu and he is only 22. He left behind his parents,My sisters and younger brother. His parents and friends published pamphlets in his memory
