Coleman, Yoseph


Son of Esther and Nahum was born on March 23, 1926, in the city of Sarnacki, Poland. During World War II, he fled to Russia and in 1945, he left Russia, spent some time in a DP camp near Munich, Germany, where he studied mechanical frameworks and on July 8, 1946, he immigrated to Israel aboard the illegal immigrant ship Yagur. Yoseph was among the deportees to Cyprus. When he was released he moved to Tel Aviv and worked in various jobs. On January 26, 1948, Yoseph volunteered for the service of the people, was sent to the north and took part in operations in Gesher, Mishmar HaYarden and Safed. After the truce he moved to the Armored Corps and was one of the liberators of Nazareth and the Galilee, On the 11th of Tamuz, July 18, 1948, Yoseph went joined an operation on the main Tel Aviv-Haifa road near the village of Jaba, and that is where he fell. He was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa.
