Cohen, Yosef


The son of Daniel (HaCohen) z “l and Sultana was born in 1938 in Turkey. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1953. Joseph received his education in his hometown of Turkey. After completing his studies, he managed to work in various crafts and when he immigrated to Israel, he began to work as a fisherman in the port of Haifa. He was a loyal and devoted son to his family and helped his mother and brother as best he could. Joseph was drafted into the IDF in February 1959. After completing basic training, he joined the merchant navy and sailed many times throughout the world, and after seven years of service he was transferred to serve in the Armored Corps, When he was released from the army, Yosef married a wife, but later, when his marriage did not go well, he divorced his wife. He was called every year for active reserve duty and fulfilled all the duties entrusted to him with dedication and responsibility. On July 20, 1974, Joseph died while serving in the military cemetery in Haifa, leaving behind his mother, brothers and sisters.
