Cohen, Yosef


Born in 1911 in the city of Sana’a, the capital of Yemen. He was an apprentice and knew a book, served as a priest and helped the sages of the community. In 1943 he immigrated to Israel, settled in Ra’anana and served the public at weddings and alliances. Joseph supported his family with dignity, was known to his community and loved her. Pain treated with children was exempt from full service and was therefore assigned occasional guard duty within the Alexandroni Brigade. Onthe 7th of Iyar, May 16, 1948, when he was engaged in fortifications near Ramat Hakovesh, he was killed and died on the spot, he was brought to rest in the cemetery in Ra’anana, leaving a wife, Rivka, and five children.
