Cohen, Yona (“Joe Louis”)

Yona, son of Meir-Matzliach and Mazal Cohen, was born on 18.6.1931, in Jerusalem, where he studied at the “Cheder” and later moved to the Yeshiva of Rabbi Uziel. He was a member of the Irgun, was drafted into the IDF and took part in a number of battles, especially in Jerusalem, where he fulfilled all duties with loyalty and dedication. Yona was killed in the course of his duties on the 22nd of Tishrei 5710 (15.10.1949) and was buried in the Sheik Badar B cemetery. On the 17th of Sivan 5721 (21.6.1951), he was transferred to the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
