Cohen, Yehuda (Udi)


Son of Sarah and Shlomo Bracha was born on March 27, 1965 in Tel Aviv. Yehuda began studying at an elementary school in Holon, and continued to study for two years at the Ort vocational school in Yad Shapira. After his mother died, his father married a second wife, and she raised him. Udi was a good-natured guy, and got along easily with his stepbrothers and brothers. Prior to his induction, he worked as a car mechanic at Mekorot. Yehuda was drafted into the IDF in early January 1983. After basic training, he underwent a course for APC drivers and was assigned to serve in an anti-aircraft unit in the IAF. Udi was very popular with his fellow soldiers, was a good and devoted soldier and fulfilled his professional duties properly. He was a lively and active guy with his peers. A month before his death, his father died. On the 3 rd of Av 5743 (August 3, 1983) Yehuda fell in the course of his service in the Peace for the Galilee and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Holon. He left behind a nurse, a stepmother, and step brothers and sisters. In his letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Yehuda Cohen was a model soldier, dedicated, loyal and loved by his friends, and his memory and legacy will remain with us forever”
