Cohen, Yehuda

He was born in 1923 in France. He immigrated to Israel in 1948 and immediately upon his arrival he joined the newly established 7th Brigade. The brigade’s first mission was to break through to Jerusalem by conquering the Legion compound in Latrun. The first attack failed and a few days later, Operation Son of-Nun Bet was carried out, in order to conquer the compound. This time, too, the fighters could not enter the fortified enemy compound and were forced to retreat. This battle fell on the day of the 22nd of Iyar 5708 (May 31, 1948). On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949), he was laid to rest in a grave in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem
