Cohen, Yehoshua (“Shuki”)


Son of Israel and Miriam. Born in Haifa on September 18, 1936. In addition to his studies in “Yeshivah” in Kfar Haroeh, he attended the Yavneh High School and the Reali School. Afterward he studied at the Joseph Ordstein Cultural Center of the Haifa Municipality. He belonged to the “Bnei Akiva” youth movement and was a counselor in a youth club of the Haifa Municipality. He was the man of emotion and his feelings in his poems. Loved the country and wanted to give her his love and energy. When he was drafted into the IDF in August 1955 he volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade and was part of Company C under the command of Elisha Shalem and wore the red beret with pride and honor. After finishing the course, he was assigned to the reconnaissance unit commanded by Micha Kapusta. Before the Sinai Campaign, he participated in Operation Gulliver to occupy the Jarandel police, and as a result his hearing was damaged. Despite being wounded, Manoah did not know, joined the Sayeret and went with her to Sinai. On April 26, 1957, the commander of the Southern Command, Haim Laskov, praised the heroic attack on the Egyptians’ positions despite the fact that they suffered losses Difficult. Yehoshua was brought for burial in the Military Cemetery at Shachal, and on Thursday, October 30, 1957, he was transferred to the military cemetery in Haifa, and his memory was raised in Uri Milstein’s book “The Paratroop Wars.”
