Cohen, Yehoshua


Yehoshua, son of Miriam and Isaac, was born in Tel Aviv on June 18, 1953. He enlisted in the IDF at the beginning of May 1971, volunteered for the infantry and was assigned to the “First Beekeepers” battalion in the Golani Brigade “He said. After basic training, he successfully completed a course for squad commanders. He was an excellent fighter and an excellent soldier. He fulfilled all the tasks assigned to him with precision and perfection. He was admired by his comrades in the unit and accepted by his commanders. He participated in the brigade’s training and operational activity in Sinai and the Golan Heights. During the Yom Kippur War, his unit participated in the battle against the Syrians in the Golan Heights. On the 22nd of Tishrei 5740 (22.10.1973) Joshua participated in the bitter and difficult battle to conquer the Hermon post. As he climbed the steep cliffs and poured fire on the Syrian soldiers, Joshua was hit and killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
