Cohen, Yaakov
Yaakov, son of Malka and Avraham Cohen, was born on December 26, 1929 in Jerusalem. He joined the Haganah at a young age. He participated in trips to Ein Gedi, Masada, and more, in various combat and first aid courses, in the establishment of new settlements in Gush Etzion and in other operations and succeeded in adding members to the ranks of the Haganah. Yaakov served in a special company for retribution, serving as a combat soldier and corporal, serving five weeks in the guard of the Jewish Quarter in the Old City. For a while he stood guard in Arnona and took dozens of wounded from the battlefield. He was sent to cover the evacuation of Atarot and while helping a wounded man during an Arab attack near Neve Ya’akov, was also injured and fell on the 7th of Iyar 5708 (May 16, 1948). On 17.11.1949, Yaakov was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
