Cohen, Shmuel (“Shmulik”)

Shmuel, son of Ratzon and Miriam Cohen, was born in 1934 in Yemen. They immigrated to Israel when he was a young child. When he was young he dreamed of being a combat soldier like his older brother who was one of the first volunteers to establish the State of Israel. In May 1952 he served proudly and fought with devotion for one purpose: a life of peace for his people and peace in Israel. During the Sinai Campaign, he participated in battles with his younger brother, who sustained serious wounds and encouraged him. He was quiet and humble in society and at work and comfortable with people. During the Six-Day War he was one of the first to fight and gave his life in a war of supreme heroism. On the 1st of Tammuz, 5727 (9.7.1967), he fell on a landmine north of Kantara, leaving a wife in her eighth month of pregnancy and was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery.
