Cohen, Shmuel


Samuel, son of Flora and Jacob, was born on 27 July 1947 in Cairo, Egypt, where he immigrated to Israel through France in 1950 and settled in the village of Salameh in the suburbs of Tel Aviv, Shmuel was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-February 1965. After completing basic training he was sent to a basic course in the artillery professions and was trained as a field-artillery officer and then served as a liaison officer in one of the corps’ field battalions for a while. Finally, he was transferred to the Ordnance Corps and was transferred as a lubricant. In this profession, he served in the IDF until the day he was discharged from the regular army. Immediately after liberation he began to work diligently and plan his future. He did not go idle even one day and was willing to do any work. He first learned the diamond polishing profession and began working in one of the factories, but the work did not provide him. After that he worked in the porterage and enjoyed the use of his firm, muscular body in this work, which requires great physical fitness. In 1970 he met Yardena, who was to become his wife. He waited patiently for her until she graduated from high school and after completing her compulsory army service, married the young couple, and Shmulik began working as a truck driver to save money to buy their own apartment. During the Yom Kippur War, Shmulik took part in the difficult battles in the battle against the Syrians, and in the course of the Yom Kippur War, He spent nights and nights repairing damaged vehicles and returning them to normal It was enough to return him to combat on the battlefield, and at the central workshop in Kuneitra he prevented himself from eating and slept for days on end to repair the damaged vehicle, which flowed continuously to the workshop from the front On October 16, 1973, the workshop was bombarded by the artillery Of the Syrians and he was hit and killed in the shelling. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife and daughter, parents, five sisters and a brother. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
