Cohen, Shlomo (Sydney)
Born in 1905 in Baghdad, the family moved to Bombay, India, where he acquired his education and immigrated to Palestine in 1935. In mid-May 1948, Shlomo enlisted and served for about a month in Battalion 65 Chayam. On the eve of the first truce, the “Ten Days” battles were opened, and in the afternoon, a force of the Arab Legion attacked the positions in the Mandelbaum House in Jerusalem, and a fierce battle ensued, which lasted until the night. He was brought to a temporary burial in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and Shlomo, who was also known as Sidnai David-Shlomo, was buried First in his second name, and only in 1991, following the request of his niece and a comprehensive investigation, was the defect discovered and the tombstone repaired
