Cohen, Shalom


Son of Pinchas and Cahton. He was born in 1944 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, and immigrated to Israel in 1950. He studied at an elementary school in Maoz Zion, on the lower slopes of the Castel Mountains, earning his living as an assistant to the driver and distributing his bread with his family. Was drafted into the IDF in July 1963. He was drafted into reserve duty after his release and during the Six-Day War, on the first day of the battles, he was killed on the 5th of Iyar 5727 (5.6.1967). Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. A book in his memory bearing his name was issued by the family.
