Cohen, Shabtai (Shaby)


Was born on July 22, 1920 in Jerusalem, where he received extensive knowledge in various fields, and when he got to Bar Mitzvah age he joined the ranks of the Haganah. Signaling and belonging to the Jerusalem Scyth. To earn a living, he worked in carpentry. He was a member of Hapoel and a talented athlete. When the War of Independence broke out he was drafted into the Engineering Corps and sent to various places in the city and its environs for fortifications. Shavei used to say: “Blessed is he who will live and see our free land.” On August 8, 1948, he was seriously wounded when a shell exploded on Mount Zion in Jerusalem and died of his wounds on 10 August 1948. He was buried in Sheikh Bader A. On August 30, 1950, He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
