Cohen, Shabtai
Son of Tzvia and Yosef, was born in 1932 in Syria and when he was two years old immigrated with his parents to Israel. The family settled in Jerusalem. Shabtai completed six grades of elementary school and then began tailoring. His friends praised his virtues, his willingness to come to the aid of others, and his passionate desire to see the homeland free from the burden of foreigners. During the course of his work, Shabtai joined the Gadna and took part in activities and training, and because he appeared mature above his age (he appeared to be 18 years old), he was accepted at the beginning of the War of Independence and fulfilled his obligation to defend the city until he was hit by a shell and fell on June 11, 1948). He was buried in Sanhedria. On September 19, 1951, he was put to rest at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem.
