Cohen, Shabtai


Son of Yinon and Sarah. Born on September 22, 1947 in Rehovot, Shabtai completed his studies at the Dov Hoz Elementary School in Jaffa, and was a member of the marine association of Hapoel Bat Yam because he had sports tendencies and participated in marches (such as the four days march , The Negev Parade and the Tabor race), swimming competitions (in Kinneret and Daughter of-Yam) and sailing, he was awarded the Eli Cohen sailing trophy, and at the end of the tenth course in the framework of the Yordei Yamim Association, he traveled with his friends to Cyprus to rescue people who were about to drown in the sea. In August 1965 he was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces for combat engineering, and in his regular service he fulfilled his duties faithfully and with infinite devotion. Shabtai fell in the performance of his duties on the 21st of Sivan 5727 (29.6.1967). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. His commander, in a letter of condolence to his parents, wrote that although Shabtai had fallen in the campaign for the state’s existence, it was confined throughout the days to the fighting forces in the Jerusalem sector.
