Cohen, Sasson


Son of Marcel and David, was born on July 20, 1958, in Tirat Hacarmel, where he had five brothers and three sisters. His father was persecuted for his Zionist activities in Iraq. He ran away from his home, and together with one of his older sons and ten Jews reached the Persian border, they encountered Iraqi border guards, six of whom were murdered. The others managed to escape and cross the border in 1950. They arrived in Israel a few years later, together with the large aliyah of Iraqi Jews, his mother and all of his family arrived in Israel, and Sasson was born in Tirat Hacarmel. When the Peace for Galilee war broke out, Sasson was called up for reserve duty and took part in the war as a military truck driver. On April 14, 1983, on his way to vacation, as they passed the Rushdia camp, the bus was ambushed by terrorists. Sasson was hit and killed. He was 25 years old when he died. Sasson was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
