Cohen, Pinchas (Pini)


Son of Esther and Joseph, hw was born on July 2, 1961 in Safed. When he was 3 years old, Pini moved with his family to Tiberias, and since then his fate has been linked to the Sea of ​​Galilee. He began his studies at the “Erlich” elementary school and graduated from the “Amal” Comprehensive High School in the biological track. Pini was a member of Batsofim in the Kinneret-Tiberias tribe, first as a trainee, then as a guide and eventually as a tribal coordinator. He volunteered for every mission, and his desire to take responsibility made him one of the pillars of the tribe. In January 1980, Pini was recruited to the IDF and assigned to the Nahal paramilitary unit “Desert”, whose target group was Dune. When the battles of the Peace for Galilee War began, Pini served in the eastern sector of Lebanon. He took part in the fierce battles and was promoted to sergeant at the end of the fighting. On 7 Av, July 26, 1982, Pini trained with his unit during a navigational course in the Jenin area and went out with a group of soldiers in a military vehicle that accidentally penetrated a minefield from the time Jordanian forces were in control. Pini, who was 21 years old at the time of his death, was buried at the military cemetery in Tiberias. He was survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
