Cohen, Ofer-Zvi

Cohen, Ofer-Zvi

Tamara and Jacob’s eldest son. Ofer was born in Tel Aviv on November 16, 1959. He began his life training course at the Shalom Aleichem elementary school in Holon. Already early in his life, Ofer discovered a high social sensitivity while pursuing justice, which was expressed, among other things, in collecting used clothes for the needy and raising his contribution during the Six-Day War, collecting used books, selling them to the passers-by, During his studies at the Mitrani High School in Holon, he was more concerned with helping his friends in distress, in a war to correct things that he considered wrong and in search of a better world. When he completed his studies in 1977, he faced the question of where to enlist. His answer is sharp and fast – the Golani Brigade. This division was not at the time the wish of the new recruits, and precisely because of that, in order to contribute to raising its level, Ofer chose to volunteer in its ranks, hoping to serve as a right-hand marker for his high school friends. At the end of three years as a combat soldier in the brigade, Ofer was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant, and Ofer worked as a teacher at a school in Jaffa, where he worked with great success and during his work, he worked hard to raise the awareness and pride of his students. In 1981-1984, he studied at Tel Aviv University and completed his BA in Social Sciences and the State of Israel, where he decided to choose between two tracks: the teaching track and the police track. His friends were on a course that was not accepted in those years To the Israel Police and a year later he married Racheli Levi and established a home in Rishon LeZion with the support and assistance of Racheli, he began an accelerated promotion course, and from March to October 1987 he took a course for police officers in a special cadets’ course. In May 1988 he was appointed commander of a detective unit in the Ayalon district, and in July 1988 he was appointed to the detective and intelligence officer at the Jaffa station, whereupon Ofer was exposed to his greatness. After him, his charismatic personality followed his men to work. His devotion to his position was accompanied by no less devotion to his people, and was thus very fond of them. He was also very fair to the people on the other side of the barricade – those who were involved in the crime, some of whom had even come to pay their last respects. Ofer’s personal happiness reached its peak with the birth of his son Roi in May 1989. Despite the many hours he invested in his work, he found the time to carry Raheli and Roi on their shoulders. During his few spare hours he spent with his parents, uncle and sisters. He was a friend and a good friend. On the 28th of Tishrei 5710 (October 28, 1989), Captain Ofer fell in the line of duty while attempting to capture an Arab drug dealer in the notorious “Snir” orchard in Jaffa. Thirty years old. He was buried in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, Tel Aviv. Left a woman, a five-month-old boy, and two sisters.
