Cohen, Oded

Ben Esther and Aaron. He was born on 26 August 1972 in Jerusalem. Oded attended the religious public school in Beit Hakerem and joined the “Ofek” school for gifted children. He continued his studies at Neve Shmuel High School in Efrat. Oded was a member of the religious Scouts movement and volunteered for Magen David Adom. The lines that characterized Oded in particular were personal integrity, the yearning for absolute truth and justice, the strong desire to help others and save lives and his great humility. He gave a lot of charity, especially in secret. At the end of July 1990, Oded joined the IDF in the “Hesder Yeshiva” and studied for one year as part of the Shiluv yeshiva in Kibbutz Ein Tzurim, where he served as a tank driver and a tanker in 1992. In 1993, Oded returned to the yeshiva for a year of study, and his teacher at the yeshiva said that Oded was a quiet student, introverted, outstanding in his studies, loved to study Talmud and was interested in matters of thought, thought and education. At the end of the academic year, Oded returned to serve in the Intelligence Unit of the Central Command as a noncommissioned terrorist operative. His commanders told him that he was a very serious and disciplined soldier, who functioned professionally in an excellent manner. Oded argued to his colleagues that the maximum should be invested in military service, because of the importance of service and the need to contribute. He aspired to perfection and worked well in stressful situations. Was a very friendly and friendly soldier among his friends in the industry. On Independence Day 5755 he received a certificate of excellence and was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant Oded fell during his service on 7 May 1995. He was twenty-two years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by parents, two brothers – Amotz and Eitan and sister – Michal. The commander of the unit in which Oded served, wrote in his memory: “It is very difficult to summarize in a few sentences / a brief acquaintance, with many activities and actions. To be perfect, to have integrity, to have a rich expression / a man of principles, to fight for them uncompromisingly / and to stand on his mind – without fear – against all ranks / very caring, sensitive to everything around him / / Oded, I saw you as a young man, blessed with talent / whose work you can rely on with your eyes closed. And your personality, to you we have been awarded a certificate of excellence / to express our appreciation for your ability and qualities. “
