Cohen, Nissim


Son of Ezra and Hannah. He was born in Rehovot on 14 December 1958. He studied at the son of Zvi School and continued his studies at the Katzir High School, completing his high school studies at the ORT vocational school, He was a sports enthusiast and played in the Hapoel Rehovot handball team, he also played soccer in the Maccabi Shaarayim team, he was also a good swimmer, and tried to love literature, music and animals. A collector of stamps and coins, was a sociable member and stood out in the company with his pleasant manner and the joy of life in which he was in early August 1977, drafted into the IDF and assigned to the Ordnance Corps. On March 15, 1978, he fell in a battle in south Lebanon, where he was driving a mine. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Rehovot. Survived by his parents, two sisters and a brother. “Nissim served under my command as an APC mechanic,” the unit commander wrote in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family: “He was pleasant, volunteering for every mission, willing to help his friends in everything and very acceptable to them. I knew him as a good soldier and a sports fan. The Minister of Defense at the time, Ezer Weizman, wrote in a letter of condolence to the family: “Private Nissim Cohen was an excellent soldier, an exemplary friend and a lover of everyone who knew him.”
