Cohen, Niran
Niran, son of Nava and Ofer Cohen, was born in 1993 in the city of Tiberias. He was born on the third night of Chanukah and hence his name, Ner (the distributor of light), and Ran (symbolizing joy). On January 9, 2012, Niran joined the IDF and served in the Armored Corps, serving as a cook. Niran fell in battle during Operation Tzuk Eitan on 1 Av, July 28, 2014,, when a mortar shell fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in the area. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Tiberias and left his parents, two sisters and a brother, and after his fall Niran was promoted to the rank of corporal. In memory of Niran, a Torah scroll was written and placed in the “Ohel Shimon and Chana” synagogue in Tiberias.
