Cohen, Moshe


Son of Nahum and Rachel. He was born on 7 March 1940 in Jerusalem and attended the “Doresh Zion” elementary school, where he attended high school in the evenings and at the Teachers College in Be’er Sheva. In 1962, after passing the matriculation exams, he went to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It was difficult for him to concentrate on his studies because his parents’ home was overcrowded, so he had to leave the house and live in the student housing. He studied economics and political science. He worked and worked in many crafts. He took an electrification course, a course for tour guides, and a course for accountants. Since he was fluent in Hebrew, English, French and Arabic, he worked at night as a receptionist in hotels and as a tour guide at Heichal Shlomo. In the last period of his life he also worked as a host at Beit Hillel. His hobbies were tennis and swimming, and for eleven years he continued to cross the Sea of ​​Galilee. He completed his third year of studies and was preparing to leave for France at the end of 1967 as part of a student exchange. He was called up for reserve duty from time to time, even at the outbreak of the Six-Day War. He was wounded and more than two months later, on August 24, 1967, he died of his wounds during surgery the third. Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. His friends published a book bearing his name. In the book “Nizkor” published by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Student Union, edited by Yehuda the Civil, his history and description of his last sacrifice. A monument to his memory and the memory of his friends who fell in Tzur-Behar was established in Ramat Rachel. His name was commemorated at the Porat Yosef synagogue in Jerusalem
