Cohen, Menachem
Son of Zechariah (HaCohen) z “l, was born on the 8th of Menachem Av, 5704 (7.8.1954) in Moshav Shlomi. He studied at the Neve Moshe Elementary School in Magdiel and from there went to study the handicraft at the high school in Kfar Chabad, where his classmates said that Menahem was very confident, knew what he wanted He was an excellent athlete and in the running competitions at the school he always came first to the finish line, so he played a lot in football. Menachem was drafted into the IDF in early February 1973 and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade. He met all the basic training difficulties and completed various courses in succession: a crash course, a course for infantry officers, a course for drivers, a course for non-combat soldiers. In the army, too, he observed the mitzvot and exerted a spiritual influence on his comrades in the unit. His commanders highly valued him and expressed their appreciation by elevating him. During the Yom Kippur War, Menachem took part in the bloody paratroopers’ war against the ‘Chinese farm’ and passed through it safely. In the course of his service, Menahem was mortally wounded on 15 January 1975, when he was taken to the eternal cemetery in Hod Hasharon, leaving a widow, five sisters and two brothers behind him. His family donated a Torah scroll to a synagogue in Hod Hasharon.
