Cohen, Meir


Son of Shlomo and Simchah. He was born on the 18th of March 1947 in a division in Morocco. The family immigrated to Israel in 1956 and then lighted eight years old. After completing his studies at the “Branch of Life” elementary school in Jerusalem, he began to attend high school, but a year later he was forced to stop his studies and go to evening classes in order to work in the morning as a clerk. During her spare time, she was active in sports. Was drafted into the IDF in May 1966. He volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade when he learned of his volunteering, but he explained to them clearly: “Everyone must die, so do not be afraid if I die in battle.” He added, “If I do not volunteer for the paratroopers because of your opposition, Because then who will go? In the end, there will be no volunteers for the paratroopers. “Meir was injured and his elderly parents asked him to ask for a transfer from his unit, but he refused, and Meir was always willing to volunteer for anything and in order to prevent them from worrying he would not tell them much. He was buried in the emergency cemetery in Bari and was later transferred to the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, where he was buried at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem on the first day of the battles. After having fallen his exemplary act was noted for praise for the discovery of courage.
