Cohen, Herzl


Herzl, son of Amas and Shlomo, was born on the 21st of Av 5761 (21.8.1951) in Rehovot. Herzl was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1969 and assigned to the Artillery Corps. When the Yom Kippur War broke out he was sent to the front in the Golan Heights and took part in the battle against the Syrians. On the 26th of Tishrei 5734 (October 22, 1973) he fell in battle on the slope of Mount Hermon. He was killed by the shots of a Syrian sniper while he was at the head of a column of his soldiers after he had volunteered to take Mount Hermon from the Syrians. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Nes Ziona. He was survived by a father, a mother, two brothers and a sister. After his fall, he was promoted to captain.
