Cohen, Haim-Baruch


Son of Chaya-Leah and Moshe, was born in 1930 in Safed. Until his 12th year, he studied at the Kol Israel Haverim school. That same year, the family moved to Petach Tikvah, where he graduated from the elementary school of PICA and immediately went to work and acquired a practical profession: frameworks, and at the same time joined the Maccabee Youth Association and was one of its active members, volunteering for ” In Petah Tikva, and at the age of 17. He joined the Haganah, where he underwent extensive training, and when the War of Independence broke out after the United Nations General Assembly decided to divide the country into two states, he enlisted in the Alexandroni Brigade. He participated as a machine gunner in the battles of Ramat Hakovesh, Arab Kfar Saba, Jaljulia Bridge, Tel Litvinsky, Hiriya, Sakia, Salameh and others. With the entry of the Arab Legion into the war, the situation in Jerusalem deteriorated and the road to it was cut off by the Legion system in Latrun. In order to break through the road, Operation son of-Nun A was carried out and the task was assigned to the 7th Brigade. The battalion of Haim-Baruch reinforced the brigade and was tasked with conquering Latrun. At the beginning of the attack they encountered better enemy forces and had to retreat. This battle fell on the 17th of Iyar 5708 (May 26, 1948). On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
