Cohen, Haim Aryeh
Son of Henia and Ephraim, was born in 1904 in the city of Kishinev, the region of Bessarabia (then Romania). He immigrated to Israel in 1913, at the end of the Second Aliyah, at the age of 9, where he grew up, was educated, and worked in agriculture and construction. At first he was a settler from Kfar Vitkin, and recently sat in Holon, in the People’s Housing. For many years he worked as a guard and was a member of the Haganah throughout the Mandate until the threshold of independence. Haim Aryeh fell from a sniper bullet on the 26th of Shvat 5708 (February 6, 1948), while he was working in fortification. He stood in the Green neighborhood of Holon. He was laid to rest at the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery. He left a wife and three children. One of his sons, Menahem, also fell in the War of Independence about three months later, under the command of the ship “Shark”.
