Cohen, Eliyahu (‘Eli’)
Son of Salomon and Esther. He was born on February 26, 1957, in Morocco. He immigrated to Israel with his family in 1964. Eli studied at the Chabad elementary school in Ir Ganim in Jerusalem and then completed his studies at the Kiryat No’ar High School in Beit Vegan in the capital, and after graduating from high school Eli started working as a clerk In the National Insurance Institute in Jerusalem, and continued this work until he joined the IDF. From childhood he was an avid sports enthusiast and excelled in soccer. Being a member of a large family, he knew how to take care of his needs and help his older brothers and sisters. Eli was drafted into the IDF in February 1975. After basic training and after completing various professional courses, he was sent to serve in the Gaza district headquarters, and his promotion was rapid and within a relatively short period of time he was appointed as the operations sergeant of the county. His important role in responsibility and dedication On 9 Tammuz 5737 (25.6.1977) fell to me during his service. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, six brothers and two brothers. After his death he was promoted to First Sergeant.
