Cohen, Eliyahu

Son of Shoshana and Aryeh, was born on the 16th of Kislev, December 18, 1929 in Manchester, England. His father was a doctor, and his mother was a pioneer of the “Eretz Israel Theater”, third generation in the country. For many years he remembered the experiences of the aliya as a youngster, and wrote them down in writing. Eliyahu wrote poems in youth stages. He completed his studies in Bialik, and later at the Herzliya. He went to Kibbutz Dafna, and joined the Palmach, before the outbreak of the War of Independence. Eliyahu was one of those who knew the special value of training, and preparation before the big test. In the Galilee, he received a commanding officer’s course, and received the appreciation of his commanders and subordinates, in the “Yiftach” Brigade. He never complained, and was prepared to go to any danger. On the 17th of Iyar, May 26, 1948, at the head of his class, he went on a raid on the village of Banias. When the class approached the village, they encountered an ambush. In an instant, an enemy bullet pierced his heart, and was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Hulata.
