Cohen, Aharon
Aharon, son of Remond and Shimon, was born on February 7, 1955, in Tiberias. He studied in an elementary school in Tiberias, and later continued his high school studies at Kibbutz Mahanayim. After completing two years of study, he stopped his studies and began working in his hometown as a welder. Aaron was an alert and talented student, loved by his teachers and friends. He had a quick grasp and achieved impressive achievements when he worked on his studies. He was mischievous, but even his teachers forgave him for his mischief because of his great charm. He was always smiling and his cheerful laughter caught up with everything. He was lively and energetic, head and leader of his peers in school and neighborhood. From his youth he was a member of Hashomer Hatzair and took an active part in all its activities. Aharon was a sports fan and excelled in various athletic fields. He had a talent for painting and loved drawing in his spare time. He has always been loyal and devoted to his parents and caring for his family. Aharon was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-May 1973 and assigned to the Artillery Corps, where he was sent to a course in the drivers’ course, but did not finish because of the Yom Kippur War. On October 7, 1973, he was hit by an air strike and was killed on the spot. At first he was declared missing and after his body was discovered he was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Tiberias. He was survived by a father, a mother, two brothers and a sister. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. His comrades in the unit published a pamphlet in memory of the fallen soldiers. And so they wrote about Aharon: “Uri loved us all – he loved life as it is – for the good and the bad, and he loved everything – and everyone loved him.”
