Cohen, Aharon

Aharon, son of Sonia and Abba Cohen, was born on January 6, 1910 in the city of Vitebsk, Russia. When he moved to Vilna, he studied there in a Hebrew gymnasium and in 1923 immigrated to Israel with his parents. In Israel, he completed his studies at the Tel Aviv High School for Trade and began working as a clerk in the Apothecary Bank. In 1924, at the age of 14, he joined the Haganah and advanced to the rank of MP in the command stages, after which he chose to serve in the Hebrew-Jordanian School Corps. In the Gush Katif bloc of Petach Tikva, Samaria and Ben Shemen, during the bloody riots of 1936-1939, Aharon commanded positions on the borders of Tel Aviv-Jaffa and around the Triangle. After the conquest of Jaffa by our forces, Aharon was awarded the rank of captain and served as liaison officer with the United Nations. They were fond of his humility and intelligence. In the vicinity of Faluja, on the first day of Adar 5709 (March 2, 1949), Aharon’s car ran over a mine. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left a wife and two children.
