Cohen, Abraham


Abraham, son of Jonah and Israel Cohen, was born in Kishinev, Russia, in 1908 and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1908. His father died shortly thereafter, and his mother died shortly afterwards. When he was about twelve years old, his older sister, who lived in Moshav Merhavia in the Jezreel Valley, took him in. Avraham served in the Book Corps for seven years and during his service he became attached to the Negev and its Bedouin residents. On 18.10.1938 he went to Tel Aviv for guard duty in Gan Yavneh, and on the way back to the colony, his bus was attacked by a gang of Arab rioters. he was shot and killed on the spot, and he was buried in a mass grave in Gan Yavneh.
