Cohanim, Rachel (‘Ruchale’)

Daughter of Aziz and Queen. She was born on September 10, 1955 in Haifa. She spent her childhood until the age of five in the immigrant camp in Pardes Hanna. Already at this age she warned her beauty and was crowned grace in the family and outside. When she was six years old, the family moved to the city of Holon, to everyone’s delight. Here she completed her studies at the Bar-Ilan elementary school. Afterward she studied at the three-year vocational school for administration and commerce in Holon, in the secretariat track. She was a graceful girl, and her circle was very wide. As her graduation approached, she was eagerly prepared for the day when she would enlist in the IDF, and before her enlistment Rachel worked for more than half a year as a clerk in the Ministry of Defense, IMI. “If you ask me what’s going on with me, everything is normal, I’m still, I’m still working in the Ministry of Defense, and the happiest message for me is that I’m enlisting,” she says. In 4-5 months … “Rachel was drafted into the IDF at the end of April 1973. After basic training she was assigned to the armored battalion in the Sinai. In her personal diary, which was written during the Yom Kippur War, it was said: “… they wanted to evacuate all the girls, but they wanted to evacuate all the girls, but they did not return home. I decided that my duty to the state was to stay and help. The guys told me the danger was to stay. You should go home with all the girls, but I did not agree … “After the war, the headquarters and company went to serve in Beluzah, and Rachel remained to serve them until the last day of the war, on the 16th of Iyar 5734 (28.4.1974) Only, Rachel fell during her service in the Sinai.
