Claire, Zvi


Son of Naima and Avraham, was born on 8 August 1930 in Czernowitz, Romania, and immigrated with his parents to Eretz Israel in 1934. He received his education in Israel and in Ramat Gan, where he lived, graduated from the Gymnasium. He was also a member of the “Hatzofim” branch in Ramat Gan and one of its activists, and after finishing the matriculation exams at the outbreak of the War of Independence, he immediately enlisted with a group of his friends and moved on to the start of his training in the group From there he was sent to the Negev Brigade of the Palmach and served in Ruhama, Dorot and Nir Am. Zvi participated in a number of operations and the last was Operation “Philist” – the attack on the Egyptian column in Ashdod – when his battalion attacked the southern part of the array.
