Cindar, Shai (“Chicky”)


Son of Roth and Yizhar. He was born in Nazareth Illit on August 23, 1966. He completed his elementary studies at the Atzmon School and later attended the Sharett High School in the biological track. Shai was a sociable boy and active in the Scout movement. A quiet, good-hearted fellow who is very popular with his friends. In November 1985, Shay was drafted into the IDF and assigned to serve in the armored corps as a tank crew member, and was a professional soldier with a very high performance, devoted, exemplary friend and loved by everyone he knew On January 29, 1986, In a battle in the Mehola region of the Jordan Valley, where a Jordanian soldier crossed the Jordan River and ambushed an IDF patrol during the opening of the security fence. In this encounter he died. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Nazareth Illit. Survived by his parents and brother. In a letter to the parents, his commander wrote: “Shai loved the country and served in the army out of a belief that his purpose was to defend the country’s borders both in calm and in war”
